Panthers Comeback Bid Comes Up Short

A second-half rally came up just short on Wednesday as the Panthers lost at home to Genesee Community College, 92-88. TC3 drops to 12-9 overall and 8-5 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference, while Genesee improves to 19-7 overall and 9-2 in the MSAC.

The Panthers trailed by as many as 23 points midway through the second half before putting together a late push. Down 71-48, the Panthers started the comeback by scoring eight straight. The deficit continued to shrink, getting to single digits at 79-70 with 5:30 left on the clock. After cutting the margin to five points, Genesee stretched it back to ten points, 89-79, with a minute left. The frantic final 60 seconds saw the Panthers cut the spread in half with 25 seconds left, and pull within four with 17 seconds left, but ultimately the home team ran out of time.

Jah-Mel Bruce sparked the second-half rally, scoring 20 points after halftime to finish with 28 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals. Malachi Brown had 18 points, followed by Charlek Rockcliffe with 17 points. Izeir Mayben narrowly missed a double-double with 17 points and 9 assists, and Kashif Summers, Jr. pulled down 10 rebounds.

The Panthers close out the regular season at home Saturday against Cayuga Community College.
