The Panthers dropped a pair of Mid-State Athletic Conference games on Sunday, falling 13-9 and 13-3 to Corning Community College. TC3 is now 1-13 overall and 0-4 in the Mid-State Athletic Conference. Corning is 2-10 overall and 2-6 in the MSAC.

Game One: Corning 13, Tompkins Cortland 9

After a scoreless first inning, Corning put three runs across in each of the second and third innings, and then two more in the fourth to lead 8-0. TC3 rallied to pull within 8-5 after five innings, but the Red Barons plated three in the sixth and two more in the seventh to lead 13-5 heading to the bottom of the seventh. Evan Shank led off the bottom of the inning with a home run, sparking what turned out to be a four-run rally that ended with the tying run on deck.

Dominic Zona finished game one 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles, three RBI, and three stolen bases. Easton Podbeusek and Logan Meerburg each went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Game Two: Corning 13, Tompkins Cortland 3  (five innings)

Another slow start was costly for the Panthers, as the team allowed seven runs on just two hits in the first inning. Home runs by Podbeusek and Meerburg provided three runs over the first three innings, but it wasn't enough as Corning tacked on enough runs to end the game by the run rule after five innings.

Looking ahead

The Panthers are scheduled for a makeup doubleheader at SUNY Niagara on Tuesday.
