The Panthers baseball team traveled to Florida for some non-regional games over Spring Break, with Saturday's doubleheader with Waubonsee Community College (Illinois) opening the trip. After a sluggish opener, the Panthers played a solid game two until the final inning, ultimately dropping both games to the Chiefs. TC3 is now 1-6 on the season.
Game One: Waubonsee 10, Tompkins Cortland 0 (6 innings)
The Chiefs scored six in the first inning and the Panthers never could get anything going on the offensive end, managing just three hits for the game. Dominic Zona, Keelan Marren, and Easton Podbeusek each recorded singles as the Panthers were shutout for the first time this year.
Game Two: Waubonsee 15, Tompkins Cortland 2
The offense was still quiet to start game two, but starting pitcher Jose Ramos, Jr. did a nice job keeping the Panthers in the game, allowing just one run through the first four innings. The game was still in reach at 4-0 heading into the seventh inning when the wheels came off. Waubonsee plated 11 runs as the Panthers needed four [pitchers to get through the frame. Two runs for TC3 in the bottom of the seventh averted the shutout, with Podbeusek and Jack Pilgrim crossing the plate for the first anthers runs of the Florida trip.
Looking ahead
The Panthers continue their spring break trip with a doubleheader against Westchester Community College on Sunday.
